Pat HightPat has a BFA from MSU in Springfield, Mo. and has been making and selling functional pottery and other clay things under the business name Red Hot Pots for 25 years. Pat's functional work (that means cups and bowls) is stoneware, fired at mid-range temperatures ,and is microwave and dishwasher safe. No lead is used in Pat's glazes or clays. You will also find sculptural work fired in the Raku kiln which produces intense copper colors, deep blacks and grays, and vibrant greens. Pat also studied a lot of drawing and printmaking when she went to art school and sometimes incorporates those skills into work. Lately Pat has gotten interested in adding other materials to clay after it is fired and in making sculpture of found materials. Pat is hoping to soon put her new learned skill of welding to work on these projects. Pat also makes a variety of rhythm instruments including drums, shakers, shekere's, an rhythm sticks. You can also find mountain sage and mint from Pat's garden for sale at Arcadian Arts. When not making things or gardening, Pat can be found in local schools working as a teaching artist on projects that incorporate environmental education and art. Pat is practically a "full service artist" and its worth your time to come by the store and see what's new.
